Mud Season has Started

4/30/2014

It feels like closing day should officially kick off mud season, but this year is different. We received 355 inches of snow - over 29 feet! This is a mind blowing amount of snow. Copper still has an 84-inch base at mid mountain. This past weekend the lifts spun one last time. That is just too late for mud season to start. We want flowers in our gardens by May, at least that is wishful thinking as I looked at the grass withering under mounds of snow the other day crying out "help me...".

The neighbors have fled for the desert. I fled to the northwest where at least the water falls from the sky as rain. Signs are everywhere that indicate mud season -CLOSED. This is the time of year when the locals re-fuel  for the next season.

On my travels I continue to spot things that will make wonderful additions to the studio from handmade heat wraps to locally produced organic fruit bars from Oregon. I've sampled wine from Palisades, CO to the Hood River region in Oregon that will go splendidly with our girls weekend packages. And the pie -- south of Portland there is a barn serving daily "happy hour" pie from 9-11 with $1 slices and coffee. Breakfast never tasted so good!

I visited Lavender Ranch in Biggs, California where we will now be ordering all of our organic lavender
essential oils. I experimented using this oil with a new lip balm recipe which was quite nice.

I am excited to bring back more of small town America to the studio from the artists that make up the backbone of this wonderful country.

As I head back to Colorado later this week, I bring with me a renewed spirit, tons of ideas, and completely revamped menu of services and retail shop. We look forward to seeing all of our wonderful clients and customers when we open on June 13th!

Enjoy the season in rewind ...

Just Two More Weeks

Today as I was walking my dog I thought it looked a lot more like January than April, yet in less than 2 weeks the mountain will close and the 2013/2014 winter season will be over.

It has been quite a season - tons of snow, tons of events, new friends and new business. Thank you to everyone who came by this year to take a look, have a massage, or stay for a chat. We have some specials this month. Check out our closing day specials.

Tomorrow promises warmer weather and sunshine. I'll be catching the skier cross at the USASA National Championships - go Caleb (bib #414).

Sunsations starts this weekend. Sun is in the title, so be prepared to catch some rays and have some fun listening to live music.

Whatever your pleasure, get outside and enjoy!
